Bio:

Alex Quinn (he/him) is a jazz trumpet player, composer and educator originally from Portland, Maine and currently residing and teaching in Brooklyn, New York. He offers lessons in Trumpet, Piano, Composition and music production to beginner and intermediate students. Focusing on instilling a deep love for music, Alex teaches the fundamentals of Piano, Trumpet, Composition, and Production as a foundation for expression. Ear training and improvisation games are a large part of his practice as well as his teaching and are considered part of the fundamentals. Alex is so excited to be a part of the Melodia Studio team and share his knowledge with aspiring musicians!

Growing up in a family of musicians and educators, Alex acquired a love for music at a very young age, beginning with piano lessons from the age of 4. After studying trumpet and jazz improvisation throughout grade school, he went on to study at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Massachusetts where he earned a Bachelor’s of Music degree with a focus in jazz performance in 2019.

In addition to trumpet, Alex studied piano and composition while in school as well as electronic music production and recording. His teaching experience extends from private lessons to masterclasses with touring groups to workshops with school ensembles for a variety of age groups.

As a performer, Alex has shared the stage with Grammy-award winning saxophonist, Donny McCaslin, as well as Grammy-nominated trombonist and composer, Alan Ferber. He is also currently the leader/composer for the metal/jazz group JJ JHNSN and a member of the progressive rock/free jazz group Birthday Ass.
