Bio:
Idalynn “DeeDee” Besser, artist teacher of violin and viola, received the B.Music in Performance from the University of Louisville, where she studied with Paul Kling. She holds the M.Music (conferred with highest honors) in Performance from Belmont University, with additional graduate studies at Indiana University School of Music and the University of Victoria (Canada). Major teachers include Georges Janzer, Jaroslav Karlovsky, Kathryn Plummer and Monisa Angell. She has participated in string pedagogy workshops with Mimi Zweig, and has completed and registered Teacher Training with the Suzuki Association of the America (Books 1-3).
Idalynn moved to Nashville as a freelance violist, and has performed frequently with the Nashville Symphony, including playing on its Grammy-winning records. She serves as Assistant Principal Viola of the Bryan Symphony Orchestra and Orchestra Kentucky. She has also recorded with the Nashville Chamber Orchestra, Nashville String Machine, and Nashville Music Scoring. As a soloist and in chamber music performances . Idalynn has performed at Piccolo Spoleto (Charleston) and City Stages (Birmingham),and was a member of the Britt Festival Orchestra from 1995-2001. Before moving to Nashville in 1994, she played with the Alabama Symphony, Victoria Symphony and the Louisville Orchestra.
In addition to teaching pre-college violin and viola students in Nashville, Idalynn serves as Adjunct Instructor of Viola at Tennessee Tech University. Her students have been selected for leadership positions in the Curb Youth Symphony, MTSBOA Mid-State and TN All-State Orchestras, TN Governors School for the Arts, and UTK Honors Orchestra Festival, and the Sewanee Summer Music Festival. Viola graduates of her studio at Belmont Academy have won scholarships and assistantships to the Eastman School of Music, Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, University of Memphis, University of Maryland College Park , University of Georgia, and Colorado University (Boulder).
