Communication
Email is the main mode of communication from Melodia Studio. Instructors are responsible for reading and responding to correspondences from Melodia Studio and MyMusicStaff.
Payroll & Attendance Details
Instructors will be paid at the end of each month or at the beginning of the following month for the preceding month. Instructors are responsible for keeping attendance records up-to-date in order for payroll to be completed in an accurate and timely manner. Instructors will receive a 1099 at the end of the year and are responsible for their own income tax.
Teachers will be assigned a MyMusicStaff online teacher account. It is the instructor’s responsibility to keep their MyMusicStaff calendar up-to-date, reflecting accurate scheduling, attendance, cancellations, make-up lessons, and more. This will ensure accurate payroll settings.
Covid-19 & Health Policy
We ask that teachers agree to wear masks during in-person lessons regardless of vaccination status. If any party is exposed to Covid-19 or is contagious with any illness, lessons will be held online during a quarantine period.
Scheduling
Once a student is registered and assigned, Melodia Studio will work with you to schedule the first lesson and the instructor must work out scheduling with the student directly after that. A student has 24-hours after their first lesson to decide if they would like to continue. You will be paid for that initial lesson whether or not they choose to continue. The student’s first month will be prorated if they do not begin the first week of that month. The instructor’s contact information is given to students when they complete their sign up with Melodia Studio. Please let students know to contact you directly for any schedule changes, however they need to contact Melodia Studio for billing changes or to cancel or postpone lessons.
Cancellations & Make-ups
Student-based cancellations are still billed and make-up lessons are not guaranteed to the student. It is the instructor’s decision whether or not to offer a make-up lesson.
If the instructor cancels a lesson, contact the student directly to reschedule, giving the student when possible at least a 24-hour notice and schedule a make-up lesson. Although the instructor can reschedule lessons as needed, it is expected of the instructor to keep a consistent weekly time for the lessons as much as possible. If a make-up lesson for a teacher-based cancellation cannot be scheduled, the student will be credited for that lesson, and the lesson will be deducted from the instructor’s monthly check. A “no-show” and no call to the student for a cancellation is a breach of contract, except under extenuating circumstances.
30-days notice is required if a student or teacher chooses to discontinue/postpone lessons with Melodia Studio. Students will be charged for 30-days from the date of notice whether they choose to attend or miss. Instructors will be required to teach their final 30-days or their final check will be prorated.
Recitals
Melodia Studio holds two recitals a year, in the Spring & Fall. It is the instructor’s responsibility to prepare their students. Instructors must attend all recitals if he/she has students involved, unless otherwise approved by Melodia Studio.
Holidays & Breaks
During the year, some months contain an extra week for which there is no extra charge. This helps compensate for any lesson(s) that may be missed during the year due to holidays and breaks. Melodia Studio observes Spring Break, Fall Break, Thanksgiving Week, and Winter Break (the weeks of Christmas & New Year) in accordance with the Metro Nashville Public School calendar. Studio policies remain the same in Summer.
Teaching Location
The instructor will teach in the student’s home or the teacher’s own studio. Cost and transportation is the responsibility of the instructor. This expense, however, is tax-deductible. It is also the reason why rates for in-home lessons are higher than if students were to come to a studio location. If you have a studio space you would like to teach from, please discuss this with Melodia Studio. If studio space is available at Melodia Studio’s home studio, the space may be rented out. Rates to be determined on a case-by-case basis.
Additional Expenses
The instructor may choose the book(s) and method(s) to use for each student. Materials can be purchased by the instructor and be reimbursed directly from the student, or the instructor may email Melodia Studio with the balance to be billed by Melodia Studio to the student and added to the instructor’s monthly check at the end of the month. The instructor may also give the information on materials needed to the student to purchase directly. Any materials needed for the instructor’s teaching must be purchased by the instructor, and is tax-deductible.
Substitute Teachers
Students assigned to the instructor on staff at Melodia Studio are to be taught by the instructor assigned only and not given out to any other instructor unless reassigned to a substitute teacher by the office of Melodia Studio. If you are unable to offer a make-up lesson to a student but would like to cancel and/or offer them a substitute teacher, please contact the office at Melodia Studio.
Liability Waiver & Photo/Video Release
Melodia Studio cannot be held responsible for personal illness, injury or damages to the property of the instructor while teaching for Melodia Studio. Also, I understand that photos & videos of me may be taken and used on Melodia Studio’s social media, website, and other promotional materials.
Non-Compete Agreement
The instructor must call or email any referrals given to him/her by current students of Melodia Studio. Any students assigned or any referrals from a student assigned to the instructor on staff at Melodia Studio must be billed through Melodia Studio. This includes a student that has canceled and wants to resume lessons at any time in the future. If the instructor is no longer on staff at Melodia Studio and does not want to continue teaching at Melodia Studio, the student must be reassigned to another existing instructor on staff at Melodia Studio.
The instructor may teach his/her own private lessons or teach for another company, but cannot use the name of Melodia Studio for advertising purposes. The instructor will also promise to not start his/her own company in direct competition to Melodia Studio while teaching for Melodia Studio. However, the instructor can give students he or she has found outside of referrals from current students from Melodia Studio to be a part of Melodia Studio recitals & billing, if desired (this is voluntary).
Subject to Change
Melodia Studio’s policies are subject to change. Instructors will be informed of any contract amendments.
